So I've finally upgraded my lighting to Metal Halide with T5's. My tank is about 3 years old and I've always struggled keeping healthy livestock. Not long after the initial set-up was complete, maybe 6 months, I invested in a 4 x 65 watt Compact Florescent fixture by JBJ. I have been working on a little side project that gave me a little extra cash and I was able to get this Retro-Kit from Hellolights.com.

    2 x ARO Electronic Ballast, 2 x Hamilton HQI 14K Full Spectrum Bulbs, 1 x Sylvania T5 HO Ballast rated for 2 x 54 watt bulbs, 2 x UV TruActinic (I pulled a sticker off the box that said 454) with 4 x endcaps.

I'll post more pics later, sorry for the crappy pix too! The last pic is with the old CF LIghting.

Awesome...Dont let the pics get you down. When I changed from T-5's to my Halides, the difference was HUGE!!!! But the pics did not really show any difference. I know how much better it really looks in person!!! Congrats!

I'm glad to hear that you changed from T5's to MH. I was really nervous about getting into MH because of all the issues that come with them but I'm very pleased with it already. My fish seem to be happier, maybe it has something to do with the light shimmer and their color is AWESOME. I'm taking some pictures right now, adjusting the settings and trying to be still but your right, it's just not the same.
