So I was watching my tank tonight and noticed this fairly large coral like thing under a rock in the back corner. Now I know I didnt buy this but im curious what it is. Any ideas? The rock its on has been in my tank since i started, this thing has been through hell if thats the case. But I dont think its been on that rock the whole time, i would have noticed it before today. It kinda looks like some kind of mushroom but its almost see threw with a kind of green tint.

Should I attempt to move it, its not getting any light under the rock. Or will it move on its own?

It will not move on its own, but it might start to grow toward the rock. Is it fully attached to the rock? If not then you should go ahead and move it. If it is attached you can try to take it off (could be a risk), but just be sure not to rip it.

Its completely attached, I picked the rock up to check. But im almost a 100% sure it wasnt there before, I just redid my rock work over the weekend and that rock got moved around alot, I know I would have noticed that big thing. I wonder if it was inside the rock and just came out? I did buy new lights not to long ago and since then I have noticed so many new things in my tank

It can move on its own. Mine is the same size it has been for the last 2 years and has in that time moved across the tank 1 1/2 times dropping little Rics along the way. I generally give them away to friends that want rics.

I would suggest to move it or move your rock work since they do need some light. I ripped mine before trying to take the plug off and in a month it was fully healed and is now twice its size. they are pretty hardy if your params are good

I agree completely...you can take it off but there is a bit of a risk. They are very hardy but a big rip could kill it. IMO I would go for it and take it off to move it to a different spot. If you have fragging scissors that would be ideal. Another idea is to move the rock it is on.... Hope I could help
Good Luck...and let us know what you do...post pics when/if you move it

Thanks! Im gonna have a hard time because I have an attached coral on the top of the rock so I need to put it in a spot that both of them will get light. I might just leave it and see if it moves on its own, it seems happy and open, I will keep an eye on it and if it seems upset i will attempt to move it. I have never fragged a coral and I would probably kill the poor thing if i tried to cut it off
