I discovered that my lights cause over heating ???
(My pet store told me fishes can live up to 29 c)is that true ?
i have two florescent lamps producing heat and also their adapters
all are above the water level by about 12 cm ... what to do to reduce that effect ??? ( covering the adapters with something absorb heat !!!)
as my tank has a cover that i can't keep open ...

You could install some sort of fans to help move the hot air away from the water or exhaust it out (may increase evap of freshwater).

Install a chiller to keep your temps down.

Lower ambient temps in your house (not ideal!)

Switch to LED lighting will produce less heat most likely.

Can you run your lights for less time? I have also read of people dropping some ice cubes into their sump (if you have one that is.)

29C = 84.4F which I've definitely kept fish at when I was stuck in an apartment with water heat that wouldn't shut off until May. It definitely isn't "ideal" for fish as i think they would like to keep it ~80F or ~26-27C.

Float frozen containers of RODI water in your sump/tank, run your lights on a reverse cycle i.e. when the sun is down, chiller, cooling fans, you can even install a small chiller on a hang on the back style filter for smaller tank options.

If you have a sump a couple suggestions that are cost effective:

1 - I placed a strong fan flat against the glass of the sump that runns the entire time the lights are on and cooled my temp by 1 degree. I then redirected a air conditioner vent to that fan and cooled another degree so I had a total 2 degree cooler tank water..

2 - I was going to build a water fall above the sump out of egg crate.. Would require a small piece 1" pvc, 1 small cheep pump, 1 cheep fan, egg crate and some flex hose.... Cost approx $30 total if you didnt have any of the items already...
Idea was to build 3-5 levels where water would fall between the levels while fan was blowing on the water.. It would act something like a radiator.... I figured I could get 3 or more degree cooler water temps with the drawback of faster water evaporation.

I could sketch a diagram of my waterfall idea if needed...

The others have great ideas as well and the chiller would be the best option but a high cost...

    Good luck...

I didn't even think about putting fans in your sump haha.

Adding a chiller is your best solution however it is going to be way more expensive than adding a couple of fans. Your water temp isn't that high where you absolutely would need a chiller IMO. If you can drop it 2F I would say you're in the upper range of normal water temps.

Also, do you have an ATO? Depending on how much evaps, if you add a fan and your ATO water is room temp (72F 22C) it could help lower with the make-up water.
