so i went to a lfs today and they just got there fish in. i was walking around and went to where they stock most of them and the had a few 100 gal tanks stuffed to the brim with fish of all kinds no regards it seemed like to what was in what. everything fighting and picking at each other. it made me sad. i was going to post pics but i was not sure if that was ok. i dont want to bad mouth them and what not if someone knows them or goes there. if that makes since. so is it me or is that not right.

This is more common than not, especially in foreign countries.

In a perfect world over crowding as a means of housing fish for sale would not happen.

Realistically all you can do is be mindful of supply and demand and what part each of us plays and pass on responsible husbandry skills when and if possible.

I makes me sad to, but it's not my perfect fish and invert world.

I agree, it should be up to us as consumers to name and shame.

as they say..."pics, or it didnt happen!!" lol

its tough though. we have a couple LFS around me and they also are not very good at their husbandry and receiving/QT skills. they routinely get in specimen and leave them in the bags for extended periods of time.and then will willingly sell it to you without even examining it. Or they finally get time to acclimate and just float em for who know how long...then in goes the new fish.

hell, the other store has multiple fish with ich swimming around its system, like tis no big thing.

tough market out there. and its not like this is an inexpensive hobby!@

corailline...not to be argumentative. but if we cant voice our concerns of a reputable or not vendor in public. Where is one supposed to do it?? and how will it have any affect if it does not reach the eyes/ears that need to see it?? I understand not bashing or crap talking...but, honest and real life input is necessary and welcome in my opinion.

But really why not? If people are actively promoting cruel and in human husbandry practices then it should be made known.

If pet store was mis treating dogs and cats etc, it would be all over the news and they would be acted upon. But with fish no-one seems to care how they are treated.

If they dont want their shops shamed, then they should use best practice measures. And one of those certainly isnt over stocking!

As long as it's a good debate, no names/companies are mentioned I see no problem what so ever.

It's a passionate topic and sometimes that passion we as hobbyist feel leads to some inappropriate flaming of individuals that are not part of this thread or debate.

Images of fish in tanks is fine, flaming is not. Fastest way to get this thread closed is to start bashing.

Please take it to pm if you feel the need to mention names.

    Thanks

    Cheryl
