I agree 100%. This particular LFS wasnt too far off on his advice to you and that can be pretty hard to find.

I could order everything I have online and spend waaaay less money in the long run, but I choose to buy things from him because I trust him and want him to stay in business for a VERY long time. And if my few extra dollars help that, then it is worth it! He knows my tank almost better than I do!

To my knowledge, misbared, or other variants are NOT a hybrid of percs and false percs... They are either color morphs or PERCs or FALSE PERCS.... Essentially what I was told from the folks are ORA is.. take blacks for example, an occelaris(false perc) will have maybe 1 in every 10,000 or whatever end up black... Essentially its a genetic default as is misbars. Its no different than fancy guppies, look where they are now, or gold fish... All guppies can from the same initial fish as did gold fish.. Now you have black moors and celestials and ryukins and so on. Same goes with clowns, ORA and others like C Quest have found the defect and have worked on it to get more blacks, or more misbars or so on...

Funny anecdote... Misbars are typically cheaper than PURE strains, BUT extreme misbars or the picassos or what have you are SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive.. So little messed up cheaper, really messed up $$$!! :D

Many people always refer to bonded clowns as MATED.... there is a difference.. Bonded means they are a pair, male/female and go around the tank together or host in the same area or protect the same "nest". MATED means they have physically spawned before. While its close its different. Bonded pairs cost really nothing more, MATED cost WAY more!!

For example it costs me 2.5 times more to buy a MATED pair of false percs from ORA than it does to buy to seperate false percs... I haven't even seen black pairs on my list yet...

For the most part any two juvenile clowns will eventually become a bonded pair as the males switch sex to become a female....

Ok back on track.... I agree with essentially everything that has been stated, might not have been the answer you wanted to hear at the LFS but it could've been WAY worse... I've turned people down on purchases before, and I will again I am sure.

Get the fish you want, save up if you need to...patience is a virtue Grasshoppa.

And as far as chromis viridis goes, I would skip them... Unless you have a big shoal and are prepared to feed them MULTIPLE times a day, not 2 times a week, they will shrivel up and die...

    Good luck

so what i think i might do is take your guys' advise and stay with this lfs and buy livestock from him. But i really want to have my clowns this weekend, and if they have them at the other place, even if they are just 2 single that i can match up, i'll buy those. And order the rest from this guy. Mainly because you guys are right, he did give some really good adivse. And also because i really don't want to drive half an hour away to get my corals and fish. This guy is only 10 minutes, and that's where i've been getting my water. A guy came in to fill up his water jugs, and he dd it himself. Lol he even said customers are like family to him.

So is are you saying he WOULDN'T sell you the clowns? I might have misread... As far as clown aggression is concerned we've all covered that fact that maroon followed by tomato, clark, lozonatus and so are are the most aggressive with ocellaris being the most docile.

Just by two juvenile ocellaris and eventually they will pair up.

Take his advice, just don't take it as Gospel, save that for my words ;)

Yea he basically didn't want to sell the b & w clowns because of them being the "most aggressive" out of all the clowns and suggested to go with any of the others

Another perc of special ordering from a store is that you dont have to worry about shipping problems. Most of them around here will quarentine the fish for you to make sure it is healthy. They have a gauranteed sale if its a healthy fish and get to show off something they wouldnt normally stock for a week or two.
