I use a float valve in my 13 gallon trash can I mix saltwater in. Only way to go in my opinion!

Otherwise, when I just make 1 gallon for top off, I set my timer on my phone. Otherwise I would forget!

I was thinking of a float as well, but have to check to see if they have one that can be plumbed to the pflex lines. Maybe BRS would have something.

After flooding the kitchen a couple times I bought a $8 digital kitchen timer I could wear like a pager so I could keep it close.

I eventually installed a laundry sink in the garage and would place my buckets or 5G jugs in the sink so if they overflowed it went down the drain.

Today I fill a 23 gallon Rubbermaid can and control the RO/DI on and off with two float switches set 12" apart so it comes on after the level drops 11 gallons and shuts itself off. TDS creep is not an issue since 11 gallons gives it a nice long cleansing filter run.

one of these.... and one of thesethat ought to fix you right up in the future. I have a float valve in a five gallon bucket for water replacement of my FW tank and one in a 35 gallon plastic drum for my SW replacement. I never worry about overflows anymore. Not that I didn't find 30 gallons of water in my Bedroom closet before. We had carpet then. Now we have tile everywhere.

+1 one the tile. Contractor coming next week. Will discuss tile in place of hardwood. Not sure if I will go with the sprinkler timer idea or the floats. I think the combination of a float and tile may be better and allow me to continue to partake in my habits more safely.

I had a 30 gallon trash can of water one time fall over in the living room :( Anyway, I bought a 3 pack of first alert water alarms off amazon. They sit on the floor around the sump. Any time I'm filling a container I hang one on the edge. When the water gets to the top, the alarm goes off and prevents a flood if I'm not paying attention. The alarm is loud enough to hear it outside.

when I had a mixing setup... I had a float on the RO/DI output plus an overflow above the float that drained into the utility tub.

Mine goes into the tub as well so it overflows down the drain.
