Long story short, I decided to re-boot my tank this weekend.
I gave away/traded my fish and some corals. All my live-rock is in a rubbermaid with a heater, powerhead, and original tank water.

I took out all the old sand and dumped it. I bought 30lbs of new Caribsea sand and tossed it in. As I was doing this I remembered, "Oh yeah, I should've rinsed this..."
I remember spending a good long time rinsing the original sand until the water wasn't milky.

So... there's like this layer of filth now on the bottom of the tank, and what looks like little paper particles, and just a mess.
Should I just let it go for a few days? I don't really see how it'll go away on it's own. I just use live-rock and protein skimmer for filtration, and a sump with some carbon.

Or, would you take as much sand out as possible and rinse it all off real good?

    Thanks.
You can see it here on the surface, and whenever you flow anything buy it, it all stirs up.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
It will settle out and clear. Try using some foam or sponge filter.

    Thanks.
I was planning on doing my aquascaping tomorrow and didn't know if it'd be worth taking out and rinsing or not.

Once the rock is in it'll be too late really

It might be worth taking out and rinsing. I forgot to rinse the gravel in my fuge and everytime I disturb the sand it gets really cloudy, even two years later.

Use a siphon but restrict the flow by bending the tube, should be strong enough to pick up the dust but leave the sand. Easier than taking all the sand out, and will keep the sand in the tank. Might need to make more water, but I think that would be easiest!

I'm just afraid, like Ashevillian said, that it'll be a continuous problem. That any time I touch the sand or something does, it'll create a dust-storm.

As a nube,I didn't rinse my sand. 6 months later I have no significant problem with dust.

Was it live sand or dry? No mater what you do or what sand you use if you disturb it its gonna create a mess.
