I would check it very carefully, and bring a Cu test with you for the water that it's in ;)

That is a good idea. If he calls me back I will pick up a test kit on the way.

You might just insult the person if you start demanding to test their water before taking their FREE live rock/sand. I'd ask if they've ever used copper in the water, and then decide wether or not to bake the rock before using it.

You are right. If he calls me back I will ask and most likely take it. Then I will put the rock in water and test it then. Outside of the tank of course

You did get a good deal. I paid about 190 for 100 pounds not long ago. To fill my 240 I just keep searching.

    yeah

i had a guy recently who was breaking down his tank giving it away, got there and it was pretty scary what I saw. but I couldnt just say no i wont take anything and leave after wasting his time to meet up and get there. so I took the LR anyhow and a fish. i put fish in tank and tossed the LR out. but during this whole thing at his apartment I did manage to test his water. salinity was about were brackish should be and nitrates off the charts. the rock was absolutely covered in cyano and hair algae.
