I would say thats some peoples estimate but never could be considered a balanced theory and impossible to be a general truth. Tank size, type, filration type, fitration size, aquarist experience, eqiup type, etc would all make that variable from tank to tank. Ive seen tanks become full blown show tanks in less than 12 months.

but to me, im really not here to debate or be theoried on whats gone wrong or what im thinking wrong or right. Ive just ran out of patience in general and if thath a sin, I guess its a sin but I just do not have the will power to scratch my head over this everday.....atleast for now....as I said later that could change. I more than likely will get back into reefing.

but everybody on here has been more than great. as a matter of fact when I first started I signed into numerous forums at the same time, RC, RS, #reef, Living Reefs and my states biggest forum, Michigan Reefers and I after a month in 3reef is the only one I use. very occasional on MR and Rc.

But I will still be on here asking questions learning, I just wont have a tank for a while.:)

I agree with you. If your heart is not in it you will not succeed. but also reefing is an addiction and you'll come back...We always come back...lol :)

trust me, I have been there MANY times. I have the absolute worse luck when it comes to my reef tanks......
    1. had a fire that dumped soot into the sump causing some issues, 2. had a 135g tank break and dump all the water onto the floor killing a couple thousand dollars worth of fish and corals, 3. 6 months later set up a new 135g tank with a heater/controller that fried the system by going up to 98.8 overnight killing the few coral that I had in the tank along with the fish, 4. because of the heater, my new 135g tank cracked (had the heater in the overflow and it caused the back of the tank in the overflow shatter) 5) had a FOWLR tank wtih a large golden puffer valued at over 500 along with a couple other expensive fish because of a pump failure. Now mind you, I HAVE NEVER BOUGHT USED EQUIPEMENT so all these failures are from new stuff

Not telling you this so you can feel sorry for me or am i trying to compare what I have gone through with what you are going through, but things happen. I must have threatened to quite at least 5 times during all of this (and I myself do not have a lot of knowledge but live with a mod on here who does) We just shake our head at things that happen. Everybody on here kept telling me to not quite. While the big DT is not up right now, I can tell you as of today, I love the tank that is up. We have a 28g nano with a ton of SPS corals (these were shipped the day that the big tank broke the second time). I come home from work and just sit and stare at that tank. Everything in the tank is doing great and growing

Smaller tanks can be more diffucult. But you learn as you go. We went from 135g sparsly stocked tank to 29 g heavily stocked SPS tank. All the corals are sucking up all the elements in my water.....but I have learned how to dose to keep up with the demand.

Will I make a mistake, heck yeah! But down deep I know that I LOVE watching my tank at night. I woud seriosly suggest waiting a bit before doing anything drastic and then decide in a month or two. Dont add anything else to the tank, dont mess with it other then topping off, etc. Then see if you are still wanting to take it down.

    Good luck

Just take a look at my thread I posted last night...I had an awesome set up going until I lost power one night and all the water siphoned thru 2 levels of my house...I let the tank sit there for a year with only powerheads going while still keeping a purple tang and a hippo tang...

Take a deep breath, it can make a come back...maybe start slow...FOWLR see how that goes

    Here are som crash pics.

Uggh. these pics tee me off.

birdnest frag. Birdnest colony. $100 Acro colony gone. (ugggh)

The last pic is of a birdnest I got just days prior to the SPS crash, which made it through but is probably following suit.

If you look in my album, you will see these same corals alive although kinda retracted, these photos where also taken just days before the SPS crash.
