the reddish looking stuff in that one picture was cyano....some green cyano species can attach almost like tar...they might be considered hard to wipe off, but nothing a toothbrush wouldn't handle. If you really have to break out the razor to take it off after a good amount of circular scrubbing...it is coralline. Coralline can be a real menace at times....I couldn't make it out either way from the picture you had, the spot was really small...but close up green coralline looks like a little brighter green than film algae, has a rough almost fine sand like texture and you should be able to see some spots in it. You can also almost be sure it is green coralline if cyano will grow on it, as it usually will not grow on film algae.

Ok thanks for the info. If I do have some cyano hopefully it will go away as extra flow has been added since I now have the vortech mp20 along with a maxijett1200. If it is coralline I guess I will keep using the razor blade. I have yet to use a toothbrush so I will give that a try as well. And the green patch of coraling was a rough like texture just like the red/purple patch. Only way I was really able to get the two to come off was by using the sharp edge of the razor blade. But I had seen the ceriths trying to eat away at the small patches so mauve there was some cyano on it?

eh...hard to tell what that means...they may have been looking for food too so....?? if they eat it and it disappears though, it is film algae or cyano, that is about all you can take from it.
