I bought a 58g show to go with my 90g DT. I was thinking 75g, but this one was built, and I didn't think it would matter much. I am going to plant with grape and feather culupra, and have a 5" DSB.

The small end is 10x18. The big end is 14x18. The middle return is 7x18. The little outflow at the bottom of the corner overflow boxes is 5.5". The fuge part is only 13" high. The skimmer section is 15" high. With the DSB depth, that only makes 6.5 g on the small end, and 11g on the big end.

Is the small end going to be big enough for a fuge?

Are those corner return sections going to be fine?

Is there any reason to rework what I have?

There is more than enough room for my EV-120 skimmer. I have to replace a center panel in the buble trap. so I might have to redo one end anyway. So what do you guys think???

    refugium plans

    Dude,
I'm alittle new but isn't the refugium suposed to be in the middle
chamber between the two bubble traps. I don't think it really matters
as long as you have some form of mechanical filtration beforehand.

    I'm a rookie myself.

The fuge isn't "supposed" to be anywhere. Some find it easier to work with what they have and put everything in line. If you go inline though, the full flow through the return pump is going through the fuge.

The fuge is supposed to get unfiltered water straight from the tank. Not cleaned by the skimmer. If you put the skimmer section after the fuge, the skimmer takes out pods. By separating them and putting the return in the middle, you can split your flows. Give enough to the fuge, the rest to the skimmer. The fuge gets what it needs and feeds pods to the return, and the skimmer cleans the tank.

That is how it is intended. I'm actually thinking Sump on small end and fuge on big end. Actual water volume in the fuge with sand would only be about 15g.

On the small end, the center baffle in the bubble trap is broke. So I need to replace which will take some work for the center. I'm thinking of moving the small end bubble trap over. Use the return side baffle as the new skimmer side baffle, and build it out towards the return section.

What I'm concerned about is the baffles being strong enough. He only used 1/16" glass. Not real comfortable with that. The price was fair, so even though replacing the traps would be a bummer, it still wouldn't be a bad deal.

Either way, there is plenty of room for my skimmer and chiller pump. Might not be if I ever get a Ca reactor.

Also, what about filter socks. I would really like to get away from all my sponges. Stopped using a filter pad. Just have to clean my skimmer more.

Should I incorporate filter socks, or a place to run carbon?
