I got some biocube questions =D

Hi guys i have a 29 gallon bio cube with the stock pcs and stock actinic lighting i was wondering if anywon wouild take some time to type a list of corals they think will do well under it. I cannot upgrade them because my dad ses higher watts mean more money for electricity. And do any of you now where to put the mini oceanic bio cube protien skimmer cuz i want to get 1 do i just put it in the back where the return pump is? or the middle chamber? Let me now i wouild appreciate some information thanks ;D

 

The skimmer goes in the first chamber, the floor in just punches out. Push on it and it will pop right out. I have the exact same tank and as for corals, I had a kenya tree, zoas, mushrooms, frogspawn, and a toadstool leather when I just had the stock lights. Softies are all pretty good, the euphyllias, duncans, sun coral (non-photosynthetic), and zoas/palys should all be fine. There are plenty of others that I'm probably missing but you have plenty of options and colors to chose from with that list.

I hate to be the bad guy but when i added a 150watt MH to both my 14gal biocube and my 29gal biocube, my bill didnt go up much at all? Softies and LPS will do fine, be sure to keep your lid open to let your tank breath. and the oceanic biocube protein skimmers are useless. Better off to make a refugium in the middle chamber.

 

what exactly are lps? if i tryed to tell my dad that the electric bill wont go up he probly wouldnt believe me :/ and for the protein skimmer im buying 1 on ebay for only 25$ so ill give it a trymwhat protien skimmer do u reccomend tho for a bio cube?

 

Can i have sun corals? there very pretty i now they require hand feeding with brine shrimp correct?

 

yep or mysis shrimp. and i dont use skimmers in my biocubes! unnecessary IMO

I have done quite a bit with Biocubes from LED's to sump tanks to chillers. I would agree that the biocube skimmer is not very good and I would recommend the CPR SR3 which fits in the second chamber perfectly (it is a great skimmer that requires very little maintenance). The stock lights will let you grow quite a bit: zoas, brains, mushrooms, polyps and even Derasa clams.

With a little modification you can use a hang on back skimmer like the RIO that costs around $25.00 and IMO is much more effective then the biocube version. I would recommend replacing the stock pump. You can make the second chamber a refuge with very little work and it can allow you to not use a skimmer at all.

 

i think ill try the skimemr sence i allready bidded 20$ on ebay for 1 and im going to turn my middle chamber into a refugium with chieto and some uther things anywon now what els ican put in a refugium with chieto that duznt require lightz?
