yeah Emerald Crabs will become destructive often times as they get bigger. I have always heard that when they start to get black tips on there claws then it is time to get rid of it!

I had noticed that my candycane heads are just "popping" off. Clean break away from the skeleton. Couldnt figure out what was getting at them until last night I saw in the shadows of a rock the BIGGEST emerald crab I had seen. I think it is an emerald crab as I had some in there from when I first started the tank...but it could be something else also. I am going to trap that puppy and feed him to my golden puffer when I get him

The funny thing is that the crab was pretty small. The body of the crab was a little smaller than a nickel, but not as small as a dime.

Well, you're still in time to do that. If you do, please post a video of the trigger and whatever he does to the rogue!

Most any creature has the potential to become opportunistic. They don't realize they and their tankmates are pets, so when they get hungry and there's no food, they kill. I, for one, have had more than my share of rogue crabs, lobsters, and shrimp over the years. Since I've been a member here, I couldn't count the number of times I've seen someone report a crab or shrimp attacking fish, inverts, or coral, and one even had a sea star crawl over their clam and devour the entire mantle...

Many people like emerald crabs. Some reefers I really respect like emerald crabs. I believe they are nasty predatory killing machines. But some people like them. They eat bubble algea, which is terrific. And they eat Gorgonians, so if you have a nusiance $100 sea fan named Fanny they will make sure you never have to use phyto again. Phyto can be expensive. And they are simply indispensable for performing quality control of your gluing skills. Every morning you will find out which specimens could be knocked over. It's a valuable service. An hmmm... Who doesn't like escargot? So you can't blame them for eating snails. I, myself, prefer them with garlic butter but the emerald crab is a purist. I know people who love emerald crabs. I know people who believe that Beanie Babies are still a good investment. I believe that emerald crabs drop grand pianos on kittens and replace all your compact fluorescent light bulbs with cheap incandescent 100 watt bulbs while you sleep. They steal my drillbits and adjust my bathroom scale so i think gained 5 lbs. Some people really like them. I'd go for snails. Some people really hate snails, though.
