Yeah, that's the first thing I went to check too after reading the story on the online paper. Lot's of bad, nasty folks there. You can see the faces of the 2 they caught here in my complex :)

I was watching a movie pretty late last night, when I saw a head walking around in my parking lot. So, turned off the tv and peeped out the windows. The guy was looking inside cars with a flashlight, so I called the police, and reported him.

20 minutes later, while waiting to for the police to still show up, I get a call from them, asking me to step out of my apartment to talk to the officer. I come outside, but there's nobody there... so, this was the conversation:

Mag- Which building are you at?
    KPD - I'm at building 12
Mag- Hmm.... I think you're at the wrong apartments, our buildings don't have letters or numbers, just apartment number ranges, and mine is 177-189
KPD - Are you not from 3100 Lake brook blvd?
Mag- Yes, but I think you're at the apartments down the road, our buildings don't have numbers.
KPD - Well, we caught a guy matching your descriptions exactly, and driving the car you described. I'm going towards you to have a word.
Mag- Ok, I'm waiting outside...... it's kind of chilly!!
KPD - Yes, it is. We'll be there shortly.

5 minutes later I get another phone call:

    Mag - Hello?
KPD - Yes, we're here in your complex, is it something "ridge" or somethin'?
Mag- No, it is West Hills Village! Apartment 184.
KPD- Ok, I think we're at the wrong complex, would you mind walking to the entrance of the complex so we don't miss it again.
    Mag- Really?
KPD- Yes, gps took us somewhere else, but we did get the guy, he was trying car doors more than likely in the apartments next door to yours.
Mag- Ok, I'm walking towards the entrance now... it's quite a walk... and of course, it sucks that's cold and raining.
KPD- Yeah.... we really apologize... our gps is kind of lame.
Mag- Tell me about it! I'm cold!!
KPD- Ok, sir, are you wearing Kaki pants and blue shirt?
Mag- YES!!! I see your headlights, keep going and turn left after that small curve
KPD- Oh! I see you! Let me roll down my window.
    Mag- OK, I'm hanging up.

As the officer rolled down the window, I notice they had a female in the back of the car and I thought " Dumbasses!!! THey cought a female and I said: Male about 6 ft tall, with a grey leather jacket, jeans and a bean cap with white stripes on the forehead!... IDIOTS!!"

Well... in fact she was arrested for something else in my area, which used to be a nice area to live at.

We walked around with the officer and I explained to him step by step what had happened. The officer checked cars to see if they were opened, and found 2 or 3 cars unlocked, and one that had the stereo half way pulled out without a faceplate.

So, i called the KPD today again to see if they were able to arrest the guy, since last night the guy told me they were just now searching the car and that even though he matched the descriptions and car he was driving, they cannot arrest him unless they find stuff in his car.
The officer on the phone asked me if I knew the suspects name... at that moment, I had to hang up. I was really, seriously pissed!!

How am I going to possibly know the name of the suspect!?

So, I get a call back and the officer says goes like:

KPD- hello, sir... we have seemed to lost the call. I was asking you if you know the name of the officer that you talked to last night.
Mag- No, I don't. You were asking me if I knew the name of the suspect too!
KPD- Yes, maybe the officer mentioned it.
Mag- No, they were just about to search the car, so he would not say names without probable cause.
KPD- I see.... well, without the officer's name, I'm not really sure I can help... but.. let me ask you, why do you want to make sure this guy was arrested?
Mag- I got my car broken into a few weeks ago, just wondering if it was related, and besides! If you lock him up it is one less thief I need to worry about.
KPD- I see... well.... we'll call you if anything comes up.
Mag- Ok, I'll be hoping something does.

Now... after the whole experience, I'm asking myself the following...

    WTF?????

I don't think I learned or gained anything from this experience, other than the adrenaline rush from discovering and calling to report the dude.

    - Mag.

When I moved, I was still packing until up the rental truck until 3 or 4 am. That's when I realized that I forgot where I put the padlock to lock up the back. I figured well who is going to check this truck at 4 in the morning. I was back up at 6 am. The answer is THIEVES. At least they were dumb thieves. They nabbed some things like a VCR, a small TV, Toaster, Food Processor, etc. However, they left valuable things like speakers that cost $400/piece, surround sound processor, etc.

Love to catch one. The closest i ever came was when i lived in Ky. It had snowed that night and sticky fingers stole my 18v dewalt drill. I had went all the way to work went to get it out and seen it was gone. Told the boss i was taken off, drove back home and got my 12ga. and started tracking. All that came between me and them was a snow plow. As i walked to the end of the back alley it pushed away the tracks. I guess the word got around because some known drug head called the state police and said he found some stuff at an abandoned house. I had to identify my drill, but i had it back by noon.
