Just doing a little venting here. My tank has been running since May 25th, and I am just waiting for the last bit of cycling to be finished. Stupied No3 have been off the charts for since 6/20. I just want to start fighting the GHA that hitchhiked into my tank. ok that feels better, thanx;D

NO3 is nitrate. That should be lowered with a water change; bacteria don't break all of it down fast enough. You cycle is finished if NO2 and NH3/4 are at 0.

I know NO3 is nitrate. I am still giving it a little more time to start the build up of the anaerobic bacteria. plus my water is still alittle cloudy, something that started less then a week ago. And my NO2 and NH3/4 are at 0

I feel for you as I'll be using all base rock and base sand for my next build.

yea, there si a good waiting game. that said. I hope you have had something in there to continue to feed the bacteria that break down the waste into ammonia. if not, you will hit another cycle when you add a fish.

add them slowly and you will be good. I made a DIY de-Nitrator coil that gave plent of space for the aneorbic bacteria to grow and thrive. ran it on my last tank for years and NEVER saw any trace of NItrates.

Hmmm, When I started my 90gal tank in May 17th 2010, I used live rock, base sand & seeded it with live sand and that was it. I ran my lights as I wanted them to cycle & and let me skimmer run. Then I went to Portugal for a week on vacation. I had a friend of mine stopping in everyday to feed my cat & check up on the tank (topping off my water & cleaning the skimmer).

On 05/30/2010 I went to my LFS and added some snails & hermit crabs. Note: I had coralline algae already starting to grow.

On 06/02/2010 I moved my fish & the remaining live rock from my 29gal to my 90gal.

On 6/06/2010 hair algae was growing like crazy, so went back to my LFS & bought from mexican turbo snails. Again even more coralline algae.

On 06/08/2010. My good buddy Mike came by with a nice show piece of green star polyps, an anemone that had split off of his huge piece of zoanthids.

On 06/29/2010 hair algae was gone and looking pretty well.

Now the water is clear, getting some red algae nothing crazy, but playing around with the powerheads to fix that. Plus it's part of the tanks process. If you want look at my 90gal thread it's in detail with pics and if there are any ideas or help there for you great. Any questions, please just ask. Just remember, it will be well worth the wait! ;)
