So the tank is 36" tall, 24" long, and 20" wide? How long have you had the tank/has it been set up?

the tank has been running for 2 years my buddy gave it to me and i basically just moved it from his house to mine. he ddnt have corals he had a coralife quad bulb 96 watt power compac and i added ontop of that the 150 metal halide ficture that site on the 20' tank. i was wondering if by taking off the 96 watt coralife and adding the
Aqua Medic 250W Double EndedHQI Metal Halide Retro Kit - AquaCave
would that be enough to power some corals on the bottom of the tank? and is it possible it would overheat the water , with the lights on for about 6-7 hours water gets to about 80-81, but that is with both the 96 watt and the 150 running at the same time.

What corals do you want to keep in the tank? That will determine how much light you need.

If you want lots of SPS corals, down low in the tank, you will need a 400 watt halide with a good reflector, if you mainly want mushrooms, soft corals, a few LPS and very few sps up high, the 150 will work.

If you add the 250 to replace the 96 you will have a lot more light and heat into the tank, you will need to do something to keep the heat down.

I still say get a good reflector like this one.

Lumen Bright 3 DE Metal Halide Reflector - LB9503

So you put most of the light down into the tank rather then around the tank.

what if i were to run 1 400 watt metal halide would that overheat the water? could the 400 w reach the bottom of the tank? or is it still not powerful enough? im really frustrated with this tank cuz it needs soo much lighttt!!!

im hoping with my 150 watt haladie and my 100 watt power compact that should be enough light for my soft corals? if not ima just buy another 250 watt halide lamp :-( or just connect a hanging 400 watt halide so i definetly get the deeper penetration what do you guys think?
