The little half moon nano is dead. I wasn't going to post on the forum about the wreck but at the same time I didn't want to keep everyone waiting for what is going into it, or worse have ppl thinking I'm full of it. LOL

    You see..
It all started when I decided to take the rocks out and add some more sand. I knew it wasn't a good idea because it would cause another cycle but figuired my little guy that'll live there needed another inch or so to dig in. I took all the water out, added the new sand and got the first 2 big rocks in. The third wouldn't balance and it really began to irritate me. Well I got annoyed and was going to drill it and the one below it only I never got that far. I didn't have a good hold on it coming out and half dropped, half swatted it onto the rim of the tank. Yes Tetra Half Moons are definately tempered glass. It went like a mini bomb into a few hundred 1/8" squares in an area on the bow about 2X the size of my fist.

You can't just buy the tank but I was able to get one directly from Tetra so that was ordered and came today. The sand that was in it was a total loss imo. I didn't want to chance missed glass or glass slivers getting into my new friend. Same went for the rock. And since I really don't want to wait for another batch to leach I'm just going to buy base rock from John and seed it with a piece or two from my LFS.

So now you know what happened to the nano and why I haven't posted anything about it.

LOL I'm too old and been married to long for juicy..

It's another Half Moon because I didn't want to spend the money remaking the stuff that was measured, cut and built for the broken one. Just need to get some rock from John and 'force' a cycle with some sand and a raw shrimp.

I was extremely close from making the same mistake when I did substrate change. I wanted to lay the rock first and you know how that goes... sometimes the rock get's slippery. I blame it 20% on the algae bloom I had at the moment, and the other 80% was absolutely my fault. I grabbed one of my biggest rocks (about 11 punds) with 3 fingers of my right hand and I was holding another 6 pund piece in the air inside the DT with my left tank...
The big rock was slipping off my grasp, and I freaked out, accidentally dropping the one I had on my left, which fortunately fell on top of 2 other rocks and cause no damage to the tank to my surprise.

I know it sucks and these things make one self feel the brainless human being on Earth... But... we always have that very comforting saying that goes something like: Sh_t happens!

Cheer up! Things will work out.

I hear ya! I should've just walked away but I have a fuse that seems to shorten as I get older and if the rock had just balanced. LOL..When I dropped the rock I tried to catch it but only managed to give it a good slap which increased it's volocity and bruise my finger tips.

    LOL!

Yeah... that's exactly what happens every time I try to catch something that's already falling.... it's like my reflexes have decreased tenfold with every extra year I get. Not that we're old or anything... just a tiny bit slower than when I had abs and more hair.

That brings me back to a short conversation with my sweetheart wife:

Mag - Baby!... I think my hair is getting thinner or sumthin'... weird...
Wife - It's not getting thinner, it started falling, mi amor! (I'm spanish so she picked up a lot from me: "mi amor" = "my love")
Mag - WTF woman!? A little mercy wouldn't kill you, ya know?
Wife - (While brushing her teeth) Hu??

Now... that was wrong and there's no replacement (that'll look awesome) for hair...

A half moon tank.. that's another story ;)

    - Mag.
