Just out of curiosity, how many of you out there have considered using dead or dry rock and live sand for your tanks? I've been considering this if and when I upgrade to a 220g tank for 2 reasons. The first is cost and the second is so I dont introduce unwanted diseases and parasites.

I am putting some cheap fish that thrive both in saltwater and in fresh to start my prosess. I went to use my testing equipment today and found that the instructions telling me what collor means what are missing so i am going to have to buy more next payday rofl.lol my signiture is not showing up thats weird

for me i done it with cycling my mixed water for 3weeks, then adding live rocks after it then cycle it with another 3weeks, hhmmmnnnn and what i've learned from the others, i got water from LFS here, my ratio is 50% mixed and 50% came from my local fish shop, cycling it for weeks is the important stuff,PLEASE BUY A TEST KIT!!! snails and hermit will be the next move, after that, try to get your test fish and see if it'll survive. then so on........and PATIENCE!..never get frustrated on what you're doing

Definitely get a better test kit. I use seachem and american pharmaceuticals and I have had success with both. Don't use the red sea test kits or hagen, they are both considered blah. I used the red sea test kit and I had no readings and readings that were off. Salifert is the best but pricy.
