Ok so i do not need an ID for a critter or coral...but a behavior. I was just checking some frags to see if they had attached yet and i could take the bridal netting off (and finally my finger frag did yaay) when i noticed something...ive never seen before...my, what i assumed to be, female clown (although they are both still young and small she is twice as large as the other, but she may still be a male...idk when they usually make the change) doing the mating dance that i thought was reserved for the males...the wierd thing is she seemed to be doing it for ME??? the other clown was on the other side of the tank and she came right up to the glass in front of me and started vibrating like mad...now please keep in mind i am taking this from my bird ownership days when my macaw would dance and try to woo me...so i know birds will try to pick their owners as their mates...but do fish???? i dont mind being a fishes crush lol...but i am worried it may keep her from changing into a female, if she hasnt yet, and possibly cause fighting between my 2 little clowns...is this a valid worry or am i just being wierd???

also when DO clowns change from male to female...i know mine are at least a year old since that is how long i have had them

It was submitting to the clown in the glass...it's own reflection. When mine were just sorting out dominance and gender the one that became submissive would do the dance every time he saw his own reflection.

They sure are silly fish, gotta love them.

At a year of age the larger one is the female the smaller the male. Both male and female will shake in the presence of one another and what may be interpreted as an intruder. I would assume that are gagging whether or not your hand will make a submissive behavior.

Having misbar clowns myself I can tell you that in not too long you will have no doubt of her true intent to do you harm.

I only have one misbar and he is the tiny one...like super tiny, maybe an inch...i swear he hasnt grown since i got him(although i upgraded to a tank double the size of the tank they were originally in so that may have skewed how i see them), the other clown is your everyday run of the mill ocellaris.

What makes misbars different? I mean obviously the misbar... But what else? Is it behavior? Attitude? What?

also wondering this...as far as i know they ARE a normal occilaris or percula clown with the exception of the misbar...so shouldnt they act exactly the same also? i mean i act the same way if my hair is brown or blonde (or red or pink or blue lol) or i have a summer tan or winter pallor...so yes, what exactly makes them different? good question!

I believe a misbar is just a mutation from the "standard" ocellaris clownfish. Same as the picasso, snowflake, semi-snowflake, ect. There are many different names for them but the species is still the same to my knowledge.
