How do I get rid of this? Is there anything besides a naso tang that eats it?

Someone once said their foxface ate it. Never even heard of this algae to be honest. Seems pretty tough from the quick google search i just did. Good luck!

*sigh* thanks for the suggestion. I might just have to get a naso and trade it in when it gets too big. Seems as though this algae will grow over corals :(

Is it all over the place or just on one rock?

One rock but it's such a nice rock!! grr  I'm afraid that if I take it out and get a new live rock that I will end up with other bad hitchhikers. There is a pistol shrimp in that rock too so if I torch the rock, the shrimp will be BBQed as well:p

Well, if there was some way to get the shrimp off the rock I would just put the rock in a bucket with some saltwater and leave it covered for a few days. Maybe cut as much of the algae off as you can outside the tank before you do the blackout. I dunno, just a thought, it's what I would probably try.

There's no way to get the shrimp out. he never comes out of his hole at the top of the rock. I think my CUC doesn't want to go up there and eat this algae as he's constantly snapping at them. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to try something.

Just yesterday I tried adding a McCosker's wrasse to my tank that already has a sixline in it. The sixline started to terrorize the fairy wrasse and I was banging my head against the wall over the whole thing. Well the fairy wrasse finally hid in a hole in one of the rocks. So I took the entire rock out of the tank, fish and all. The point of this story is that if you take the rock out of the tank the shrimp might just fall out on its own, then you can put the shrimp back in the tank and work on the rock.

really? hmm I might have to try it. I could always put the sally in my QT to clean my rock if I don't want him in my DT. I have heard of these guys eating fish
