It will go away within a month or so. I had the same problem when I changed out the sump. It lasted exactly 1 month for me and it disappeared as fast as it appeared. I did nothing to get rid of it. How long have you had red slime? Luna

During the past two weeks I tried pointing the powerheads towards the red algea but nothing, no signs of improvement... I have two koralia 1s which is a total of 800 gph which makes it 40 turnover of water per hour without including the current from the powerfilter or protein skimmer. I think I have enough flow.

Well just going from the original post it has been in my tank for like a month and a week now...

how long is your tank running? you should not have any corals in there when the algae cycle is not yet done. it seems like your biological filter is not yet enough to consume those nitrates. you see corals needs extended hours of medium to intense light per day but algae also uses light and grow faster if supplied more light. excessive amount of algae in reef aquarium is not healthy. hope that you're also using good quality live rocks not those heavy non-porous such as those florida base rocks. good quality skimmer is also a must.

One note; contrary to the belief of some, more flow will in no way eradicate Cyno bacteria. It forms to a clinging slime coat to resist flow. If you do manage that much flow over/to it you will only spread it. Removing excess nutrients is the best solution and prevention other than Chemi-clean.

Give it another 3 weeks before you do anything. Have you cleaned the substrate lately? Luna
