I have the strange urge for a nitro rc boat.

mid 40's isnt bad. But i wouldnt call it fast in this hobby. Twin riggers, and the .90-1.01 riggers can reach the upper 90's ;-)

I have 2, one was a RTR that cost me about 225, the other was scratch built, without motor, unfortunately I have to replace the motor becasue the cooling pipes on it are either corroded, or plugged.

On the bigger one I figure between Boat, motor and radio I have at least 1200 invested, ,so yeah its expensive, but worth it.

Buy an RTR if you're really gonna do it. Do you have good clean water nearby? Don't drop the dough if you're barely gonna run the thing. Also, don't drop the dough if you don't know if you'll like boats or not.

I had a hobbyzone zig zag racer (my first plane was hobbyzone Aerobird Challenger...great plane for only a hundred bucks. loved that thing.) and it was super fun for only $80. If you wanna see if you're into boats or not, grab one of those little dudes. It'll at least let you know if you're interested or not. And no, it's not nitro. The thing with nitro is MONEY. Although hobbyzone and parkzone and all of them guys (all one company) have been going brushless (as in brushless electric motor) recently in the planes. It's possible a brushless Zig Zag will come along. I'm much more of an electric guy than a nitro guy. I tinkered with a nitro car, but that's it. Brushless motors with the right lipo setup can be equal to or better than any nitro motor you can find, that's how far technology in the RC world has come these days. It used to be that nitro meant faster and longer running, but also messy, loud, gunky, and a money pit. Electrics were almost not worth the money. Along comes the Brushless motors and LiPo technology, and electrics are out there playing with the big boys, and winning sometimes too.

Back when I flew 3D foamies, the best part was because they were electric, and foam, I could simply fly them until they were more glue and tape than plane. Then you toss the foam into the garbage and either cut out or buy a new airframe, a few hours later after some assembly and glue, and you're flying again with the same electronics. Good stuff :) Definitely the cheapest part of my plane hobby haha. getting the electronics was the tough part.

well now that I'm done blabbing and going off on a tangent, think about what I said. Do you really like boats? And if so, do you have the money, time, and space to run a nitro?

+2, I dislike electric. Nothing like the smell of nitro. Plus the new DLE engines from China are great gas engines for a reasonable price. Putting a DLE 30cc on my laser 200.

if i get one i want nitro and not sure between boat or car im kinda thinking more car now.

My cousins have traxis electric rc cars and i really like them lots of fun but sucks when they run out of juice so fast and batteries take for ever to charge. so yeah nitro for me

I disagree completely. The smell of nitro is one thing, but there's a scream that comes with a big brushless motor at WOT that Nitro can't replicate. Electrics are cheaper (for the most part anyways), easier, require less maintanence and repair costs, and can go for just as fast or as far as any nitro. You just have to find the right motor to do the job.

There's a reason why I put my nitro car in the attic. And why I kept my electric planes and cars running.

I will admit i love the smell and sound of nitro on my planes and raced nitro trucks at a local track, but i also had a brushless heli with lipo batteries, battery powered rc's have come along way and can be very powerful with longer than ever lasting batteries. But they're all expensive when you wreck em!!I sold off my tmaxx monster truck and a .60 sized pitts special biplane to get started into saltwater tanks.I've now sold all off,but when i was into them a few years ago, they were alot of fun.Expensive, but fun.
