    very important tip:.......
be very careful when taking pictures of your critters...

i messed up very bad last week while taking a pic of my mantis shrimp(which i love ).... i didn't check that the flash was off and his superman eyes were damaged ...badly!!
he has completely lost an eye and the other looks iffy and he is visibly fighting infection due to damageds tissue
i really hope he makes it...he is so cool

Wow!!! I have never heard of this. I always turn mine off because it scares them... never thought about tissue damage.

    Great warning.

The best of luck to you and your little critter.

Wow, I have never heard of this, but it makes a lot of sense considering how sensitive their eyes are.

Hang in there. Your mantis has better vision in one eye than everyone whose posted on this thread have together. Humans require two eyes to have depth of perception. A mantis has it with one eye only.

The lack of eating is a little worrisome but it probably doesn't feel well. When I don't feel well, I don't want to eat either. Keep the water PRISTINE and I would add a Vitamin C and HUFA supplement to it's food to encourage health and healing.

They don't care for bright lights however, the flash didn't directly cause the injury. Possibly running from the flash caused the damage. They sometimes lose an eye stalk in a fight or even a molt but as long as the infection is taken care of, it should be fine.
