    i intended to buy a canister filter instead of my top filter ... does it will make a great difference ?
    or didn't do that . ( 30 gallon . fish only )
    and what about the opinion of removing filter at all and let skimmer only ??
    cause it will be expensive

    Mechanical filtration has to be clean all the time. If not kept clean, you will have high nitrates. That's one of the biggest advantages of a skimmer. Once the waste and dissolved organics hit the skimmer cup they will not degrade and raise nitrates in the aquarium.
