They are and are raised on food more readily available to hobbyists. More captive-bred fish would do wonders for the hobby.

    Think:

Captive bred = More hardy ==> New hobbyists kill fewer fish ==> New hobbyists stay in the hobby longer ==> Hobby grows ==> More money in the system to support captive breeding ==> Rinse/repeat

    Absolutely, yes! Thank you. :)

Lots of good information there that can be related to all captive-bred species. A mandarin will still be a mandarin, a tang will still be a tang, a butterfly will still be a butterfly. Captive breeding in no wise changes their nature; they will still have the same instincts, and the same requirements, dietary and otherwise, as their wild counterparts. Treating them otherwise is one huge mistake I've seen made by aquarists, which unfortunately, resulted in many, many short-lived specimens.

How do you really know what you are buying anyway? The LFS store can say what they please. I have no idea if any of my fish where bred in the wild or in an aquarium.

    You're welcome.

It nice to see so many Sea Horse types on the list, it breaks my heart to see them collected. Some Damsels too, I have seen a couple hobbyist have success with the Damsels. Second to Tangs it seems like far too many Damsels are collected.
