    Hi,

I filled my tank two days ago, got the salinity dialed in, added the rock and just put the sand in.

The return pump is off, obviously, but I was just wondering if the powerheads should be running?

That's what I did on my setup. I kept them high until the sand settles.

I turned all my pumps off to let everything settle. once it settled I turned everything back on. you can do it either way but may take a little longer to clear up with the PH's keeping every thing stirred up. JMPO

I left everything on, including the skimmer. Skimmer pulled out tons of junk (quite smelly, surprisingly) and the tank cleared within 2 days.

I turned my power heads on after about 2 weeks so the sand could settle

You will want to run the power heads they will help to get the fines to settle out. Aim them along the top to prevent stirring up the sand.
