My feather duster just left his tube, why. The current rolled him under some rocks. Is this ok, or should I panic. What happens now.

maybe he died. maybe he hated where he was at.

Is this a soft tubed duster or a hard tubed duster?

your best bet here is to leave it alone and take your chances. if it survives, great. if not, the CuC should be able to handle it.

you *might* try, if the flow has it wedged up against a rock or something, moving some sand over it to protect it and then waiting a few weeks...

    Possible reasons:
    SG swing
    Mg swing
BIG temp swing (10 degrees or so)
    flow too strong/too weak
    picked on

only thing left isn the tube.I would have to move alot of to find him. He has been in the same spot for 2 months. never noticed being botherd. water params are constant. My wife and I were looking at the tank and he just took off. Leaving nothig but the tube, empty I guess?

Yeah, the tube is empty. You are seeing the worm and not just the crown escape right? They do drop their crowns sometimes (the "feather") and regrow them.

Most dusters I get last about 2-3 months then just give up on life. Who knows. But I've had 3 that lived over 18 months and one of those is still kicking and it is over 2 years now. They are finicky things.

Is it a soft tubed duster or a hard tubed duster? (is the tube made of sand and somewhat flexible or is it made of calcium carbonate and very rigid)

Is' a soft tube and just the feather left. Should I leave the tube alone or remove it.

if just the feather fell off, then the worm is still in the tube. leave that alone.

it might grow a new one

Agree. It will either live or die and there's not much you can do. I was moving one once and didn't realize it had attached itself to the bottom of my tank. When I lifted it up, the worm slid completely out of the tube. I though it was a goner but it survived.
