So, it typical newbie over-enthusiasum I bought an unknown coral today. Lfs guys said it was good beginners coral, couldn't remember the name but it required care similar to zoas. Looked like a softy, and my boyfriend was very excited about it, so we got it. When I looked around to figure out what it was it took forever.... not on any of the newbie sections on livaquaria or in the soft corals. Finally found it on vivid's site. Alveopora. I looked up the different species and it seems to look most like Alveopora japonica.

I have seen some very conflicting views on this coral. Since not everything online is dated its hard to figure out whats current and whats not. Help please?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
As with most stony corals they do better when the big 3 are in line (ca, alk, mag). Avoid swings in Alk or pH if you are going by pH.

In my experience this coral does better in tanks that have some nutrients, not the typical nutrient free types of reef everyone strives for now a days.

You can feed it a slurry of fine particle foods. Simply mix some flake, frozen or pellets together to make a fine particle soup, turn off the power heads and feed it.

Feeding are going to be similar to those given to a Goniopora.

Alevopora can be a fairly hardy coral in the right tanks.
