Well...ok is there a big difference between lets say a mantis shrimp and anything else clicking...the most i hear is 1 to 2 click at a time...most pplz say mantis click like 5 times...and pistols do it 1-2 times? i can never findout where it is coming from...its a night only and whenever i hear it i run and cant find ANYTHING!!! its driving me crazy....its not even every night its like every other night...also mosly its 1 click...only sometimes its more than that...i hope its not the floof creaking and gona break under the weight lol....well thx

I had the same thing in my 90. I could hear the 1-2 clicks at a time and everyone said it was a pistol shirmp, but I never found a shrimp. When I tore down my 90, I found a mantis though! It had escaped my main tank and was in the fuge. I hadn't heard it for a while, so I guess it was just chilling in the sump.

You can always try a fish trap. I think they actually make mantis traps too. Probably just smaller.

I know that must be frustrating to you. I had a pistol shrimp and couldn't figure out what was causing the noise. I have a little crack in the UR corner of my tank and everytime I heard it I thought my tank was cracking more just knowing that the water was going to come gushing any minute. Thank goodness it was just the pistol shrimp.

It is rare for smashing mantis to take down fish so I don't think that's what did your scooter in. Now, if your hermit crabs and snails started to die and they had holes in their shells, then I'd say yes, it's a mantis but a dead fish does not a smashing mantis make :)

It takes a crafty or huge one to do so.....I would lean very heavily toward pistol shrimp. Ive probably said this alot but i unload ALOT of LR @ work every week. I love going through the bootom of the styro boxes and finding all the neat critters. Out of 4 yhears in fish stores ive found aroung afew dozen mantis shrimp.....i find AT LEAST 4-5 snapping shrimp in each of the cured and alot more in the uncured boxes (particularly in the jakarta rock). Enough to feed my trigger nothing but live pistol shrimp, urchins, and other crusties I salvage from LR shipments. Pistols are much harder to find than mantis shrimp as the mantis has well developed eyes for hunting.....the pistol is basically blind and rarley ventures into the open.
