    Hi!,

I noticed since a week now that my blue tang as white spots on his body. Doesn’t seems to bother him and he eats like crazy. I actually switch his food with OmegaOne Marine Pellets with Garlic since I noticed that.
But I also introduced in my DT 3 additional tangs last Saturday and saw this morning white spots as well. They are still getting use to their new environment and didn’t eat yet and don’t see them acting strangely. Should I start to be worried or it might just be the stress and it will go away? When should I start to be worried and move them in the QT? when one of them will die?
I have only a 10 gls QT and it will not accommodate all of them!! Is there some kind of treatment which will allow me to keep all the fishes in my DT which is also full of corals?

    Thanks

So you now have 4 tangs? How big is your DT??? I would hope that you have at least 180 gallons for that. If it is much smaller, I'd really think about returning some of them.

You are quite correct that you can't QT 4 tangs in a 10g tank and hope to have them survive. You also can't QT them one at a time, since they will just re-catch ich again when re-introduced to the DT.

The way I see it you have a few choices. 1) Try nutrition and a reef-safe ich med (dubious whether this will be effective or not. 2) Get a HUGE QT and treat all your fish and leave your DT fallow for 8 weeks. 3) Return some of your tangs and QT the rest.

Thanks JJK, my tank has only 120 gls (picture below) and I know it’s my mistake as I didn’t research enough before buying these tangs. But could it be just the stress? I don’t want to panic and start buying a huge QT. I am sure my LFS will not accept my tangs now and I would really like to go for a reef safe medicine if any are really REEF SAFE, and efficient…

K, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since I have been very fast putting LS in my tank and guess what? now I am having ich problem and need to go fishless for a couple of months I flushed in the toilet this morning two powder brown tangs and my red mandarin. My bleu tang which was the first one in the tank has also lots of white spots but that doesn’t seem to bother him and he still eats like crazy. My clown didn’t eat since I got it a week ago so I guess it will be the next one in the toilet. At least if I can manage to keep my bleu tang I would be happy. I just need to catch it now, and since it eats almost in my fingers shouldn’t be too hard and then put it in my QT tank for 2 months as well.

I don’t know where these MI come from, my best guess would be from a tang a bought in a new LFS and that I didn’t quarantine…(I know big mistake!!) or my corals.
At least my tank is not that old, and it’s the perfect opportunity to have it stabilize for a while without getting crazy and putting fish every weeks..

Question: I read that even though MI don’t live on corals or inverts, they can still carry this parasite with them, so how do you treat them before putting them in your tank?

Just some updates, a week ago all my fishes died with the exception of the blue tang. He still has several white spots but he eats well and is in good health.
I tried to put few Pajama cardinals in the DT, but 3 died the next day, so I guess I really have to go fishless for a couple of weeks.

Question: I read that even though MI don’t live on corals or inverts, they can still carry this parasite with them, so how do you treat them before putting them in your tank?

    Thanks

The best thing you can do for your tank when adding coral short of QTing all your coral is to iodine dip all new frags.

thats a lot of tangs.. i have 1 in my 120.

u can load live brine shrimp with selcon or zoecon and feed it to them.
