I luv zoas! They spread nicely.

I purchased a month ago 2 green polyps and 1 pinkish. I now have 6 green, 2 additional pink and a new one thats purple.
I'm addicted to these and hoping that i have a nice garden eventually:)

Can you have too many? Why do they sometimes stay closed?

I am not sure why they sometimes stay closed.

I stay away from the Palys because they are too invasive for me. Right now I have some SunnyD's growing like crazy. Once they get established they care really take off.

    Post some images, silly goose.

It is a known fact you can't love zoas too much! That's just crazy talk. I really like them too, they add so much color to the tank. I am really surprised when people say they don't like them, and I have seen it said.

I guess you theoretically could have too many, especially if you have aggressive ones which would kill the other ones. They stay closed and then sometimes they just melt away, they do this to make sure we get aggravated every once in a while.

Agreed on Palys, they also usually aren't as pretty. Definitely post some pictures. And when are you going to be able to frag those SunnyDs?

Will defi itely post pics, just did a water change so no one is open.

I purchased a frag with a few red zoas but the rest are closed up kinda white, i guess those ones are melting away.

Is there a link to a good site that identifies aggressive to less aggressive zoas?

I don't know why ppl don't love them, the colours are just amazing.

    I luv the sunny d's

There are quite a few zoanthid predators

    Nudibranch
    Sea Spiders
    Some Asterina Star
    Sun Dial Snails

And the disease most common is Pox and it looks like Pox. When in doubt or you have melting zoanthids or palys, first check chemistry and then dip in either Lugols or Furan2. You can have bacterial as well as fungal so dipping or bath is a good idea when in doubt. RX works well too.

Adding Lugols can be beneficial as well, but it's Iodine therefore you must be careful and not overdose, a dip is preferred.

The pics aren't the greatest, sorry.

I only purchased this frag on Thurs and there were only 4 red zoas open and looking good. Thats why i got the frag.

The rest were whitish and closed.

    Hmm Thursday.

Well no I would not dip them again, I would place them in less intense lighting and an area of more flow.
