Now that would be expensive (but not quite as bad as the yacht ;)).

Though, that Tunze pump is meant for very large public aquariums. I am sure there is a reason Mark Callahan didn't even bother to tell us the price tag on it.:p ;)

I do have to say, you are thinking creatively though.

You're probably looking at closer to 50 hp/ton. A friend of mine's parents own a 60' Hatteras w/ twin 1400hp Caterpillar diesels and I believe it clocks in at around 43 tons. Matching that power would require 34,826 MP60s at a cool $24.2 million. Though perhaps you could make use of the variable frequency drive to steer the boat ;)

50hp per ton actually is about right for planning speed. If you want to move relatively fast, you need to create hydrodynamic lift and to do that requires power!

The max speed you can go without hydrodynamic lift is called hull speed. This speed or less is much more efficient. This varies based primarily on length at the waterline, but for a 65' yacht assuming this gives about 55' at the waterline would be around 10kts. You could do this with around 200hp. To go faster though, you definitely pay to play :)

Theres an idea! Stick some water proof HD cameras on the bottom and it would be hella cool8) I was thinking about getting one of those remote control stealth bomber models and putting a camera on the bottom!:)

The yacht companies could make serious money off that;)
