I moved an existing 72gal bowfront that has been running for for 8 months.. it included 3in sand bed, 2 seio pumps, sump mag 7 return, mag 7 to skimmer and 2 t5 lights and water. I drained the tank, and scooped some of the sand out, set it back up, put sand back in and refilled again without stirring the sand.. it was still pretty cloudy though. I moved approx 98% of the water, had to add some for skimmer and return but thats it.. should I expect a cycle??

IMO and I've moved quite a few times, yes a small cycle/shock.....Keep an eye on it. And do a 10-20% water change in about a week. It should be ok though. Was it across town, next room , another state? It will clear up you might want to check your filters to see if the media needs changing/rinsing, whatever way you clean your filtration. keep the ps running if you have one. you probably did stir up gunk without meaning to.. test your water more frequently during the next month - month and a half and keep it clean.

    moved it about 30 miles..
I drained all the water into buckets, scooped out little sand, probably the top layer. I came right home and set it back up within 3 hrs and let it sit with just the powerheads on.. settled a little next day, but not really so I cranked the sump on and it helped, but it cleared up almost all the way when I ran the skimmer. Its pretty clear right now minus me getting the return and powerheads aimed.
I thought you werent supposed to rinse that sponge? sump feed is on the left, goes through a sponge, under a baffle to the refugium that has algae in it and then to then through another sponge inbetween the baffle and into the next chamber with the return pump and a rock back up to the display.. the skimmer also feeds from this last chamber and return goes back into the left of sump again.

I have a Emperor Bio Wheel and I reuse my filters, one time. I rinse until they come clear, then, I set into ro/di water to rinse them again, usually about 30 minutes, finally, I rinse with salt water. Yeah I know, alot to go thru, but I feel it works for me and I save a little $$. And I use filter floss now, a lot. I have a very small filter hooked up(bro donated it), and I pack that baby full of filter floss, change it often and wow, it looks great! I think you won't have any problems with your system. Did you happen to aerate the water during the 30 mile trip? Battery powered/hook to inverter, in vehicle, air pump? 30 minutes is not long. Longest for me was 8 hours but it took 10, because we looked like the Clampets moving back to the hills.....LOL

    haha.. 10hrs is long!
I use an emporer biowheel hob on my 29gal and change the filters out every first of the month.. seems to work well for me too.
I didnt aerate the water since there were like 13 or so buckets full of water.. they werent in there long.. as soon as I got it home I set it all back up and put the water back in. the powerheads have been running ever since, but I waited a day until turning sump and skimmer on.. its pretty clear now, just didnt know if there would be as issue with the sand that did get stirred up since it wasnt alot

Your tests may be slightly elevated but it will pass as long as you continue regular maintanence. Good Luck and keep me posted!:)
