It is a dry heat, yeah right !
How deep was the sand bed?
Was the sand bed disturbed during the move and if so did you rinse the sand bed?
Was the sand and or rocks left to dry at any point?

If the sand bed was 2 years old you may have either disturbed the sand bed to the point a cycle was started or released hydrogen sulfide from anoxic areas. If hydrogen sulfide was released it's not unusually for absolutely everything in the tank to die unfortunately.

    So sorry for your losses.

You can certainly keep the sand and rocks- they will cycle again and be fine. You should change at least 50% of your water, run your skimmer and GAC for at least 2 weeks, and test for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate before introducing any new livestock.

With a 3 inch sand bed I would remove all the sand, take out all the water.

Rinse the sand thoroughly or either get new sand. If hydrogen sulfide was the culprit you need to start with new SW as well.

Not to high jack the thread but while on the subject of sand. I have sand that is 2 years old and is now dry sand. Can i still use this sand later? Its 75% crushed coral,25% sand.

If you are doing a move of an established tank that will get the sand bed disturbed I have found to just ditch that old sand. You could rinse and re use, but don't use that sand before you do that. the nastiness that you release from that sand bed will cause you nothing but grief.
