The problem with that theory is that you dont know what or how much was actually on that rock. If that rock had enough, you should have seen at least some readings after 3 weeks.;D Also 2 fish will not create enough ammonia in 72g of water to suffer. As long as the ammonia stays under 1 ppm.

you are right about my assumption on the live rock. if there was nothing alive on it, it won't do anything. i am probably putting too much faith in the LFS. we also don't know how often the water was tested. the spikes could have been missed. i added a lot of live rock to mine when i set it up and would have missed my cycle if i had only tested once a week.

I had cured live rock from the beginning. And the skimmer I just turned on yesterday, after 3 full weeks. I had slightly higher ammonia and lower a little lower ph a few days ago. I am thinking maybe it has already cycled?

Yeah, I wasnt trying to dog you...Just sometimes as you stated too much faith in LFS. I think a couple of fish would be ok.

PH does not have much to do with cycle. If you have already seen ammonia, the next thing should be nitrite. As stated above usually 6-8 weeks is common.
