You don't want algae. Take the blenny back, he won't be comfortable in that small a tank.

Fish can have quirks, but for what it's worth my Lawnmower Blenny never ate hair algae, and certainly not because there was a lack of it. Unfortunately I had also made the newbie mistake of purchasing him as one of our first fish in a 14 gallon tank with no knowledge beyond what the LFS told me. Mine wouldn't accept any prepared foods I tried, and I found out too late about nori. As the tank became more established and algae more scarce, he eventually starved to death. Darn shame, too, as that fish had an awesome personality with some major A.D.D. He used to knock corals over... bump into other inhabitants... turn 180 degrees for no apparent reason and then immediately pick at the nearest rock. I tried dosing 5mg of Ritalin to help him focus, but when I dropped the pill in he sold it to the Clownfish and then went back to intimidating his reflection. Pretty random fish.

picky blenny - in a pinch try romaine lettuce or spinach. if you go with nori, don't get the toasted or the flavored kind. after that any herbivorous fish will eat ulva.

it accepts pellet food. i also tried live brine shrimps and he loved it! will he survive on these alone? can i use the nori from the supermarket that is used to make sushi?

As long as it's not toasted or flavored. Many brands have sesame oil on them and/or are toasted. They'll just foul your water.

Also make sure there's no added preservatives... not that nori needs it, but people like to buy things with unnatural additives.

Oh, and it it's accepting pellets it should do fine. Make sure the pellets you're feeding have spirulina in them, that's what he really needs.

i found roasted valer(i forgot, but surely it didn't say nori), it's what's written on the package. it didnt say it was seasoned while other products clearly istated it. and in the ingredients it said just dried seaweed. so i gave it a try, and he loved it. it scattered all over the tank. some got stuck on the power head. but he cleared up most of it (i gave out just a tiny bit). it doesn't seem to cloud nor foul my water. maybe if i feed it every 2 days, will that be okay?

by the way, my tank is producing some kind of brown algae on the glass surfaces. they started like some dots and are now increasing. is that the kind of algae my blenny will eat? i used tap water for top off, turned off my skimmer, and overfed to get these growing. i know, it's real stupid. i'll post some photos tonight.
im sorry if i didn't follow most of your advice and kept my blenny. you have to understand i can't just go to an NSLFS's(not so local fish stores: it's a huge market far from my town with a pet section full of fish stores, who's owners can't be relied on for info, much worse-bad to zero english) and return him and get my money back. besides, i really like him.
