So I've been tying to decide what skimmer to get for the last few weeks. The skimmer in question will be for a 46g BF with a 20g sump/fuge. Mostly LPS, and might try a SPS of two after tank matures for a yr. or so.

    My choices are:

Super reef octo 1000 (rated for 150g) Overskimming?
SWC cone 120 (also rated for 150g)
    Bubble Magus 6

I was also looking at the Reef Octopus 100. (rated for 100g) They have a new design out for 2010 that has a semi-cone top, bubble plate, and pin-wheel impellar.

So, is overskimming going to be an issue if I go for one of the better rated skimmer or go for the new 2010 Reef Octo design?

No should not be a problem. Those are all good choices.

so overskimming is no problem? I have heard mixed thoughts on the matter.

What is the better ""bang for my $$" ??

    Super Reef Octo 1000 $275.00
    SWC Cone 120 $225.00
    Bubble Magus 6 $160.00
    Reef Octo 100 *2010* model $125.00

I have the BM NAC6 and it rocks. Awesome bang for your buck. Dead silent and pulls some nasty gunk. I would recommend it to anybody.

Are the cone shaped skimmers better than the standard cylinder? Pros? Cons?

Personally I like the SWC cone skimmers, but the others in you list are good also.

I haven't been looking at skimmers for a while so I don't really remember, but I think the cone makes the bubbles more concentrated at the top. A normal skimmers usually is a cylinder and slowly becomes smaller near the cup. The cone starts getting smaller at the bottom so there's less water and more bubbles when it reaches the cup. Might be wrong though

Cone skimmers are understood to be more efficient since the bubble collect in the neck easier and with less resistance. All of your choices should work really well for you. I personally would for for the SWC cone.
