Welcome Jr Biologist to 3reef. I will be combining all your thread regarding the cat shark into one thread.

Starting multiple threads on the same topic can cause inconsistencies and reluctance of others to engage in multiple threads.

You can garner all the same response from answering post from contributors.

For instance, light, feeding, tank size can all go under one thread.

OP, If this is real, I'd highly advise you to return the shark and gain some experience and get the 200g set up before buying an animal that will grow to 4' and put it in a 55g tank. It's just kinda mean, IMO.

    Later and good luck

If it were me, I would monitor the ammonia daily for a week or so. Adding a large bioload (like a shark) in addition to dense, meaty foods, could cause a spike. The spike could threaten the shark. Have some water change water on hand and ready to go.

. best thing you can do at this point is return him from wherever the heck you got him and do some research before getting another. or better yet see if a friend of the lfs can hold him for you while you read up and purchase a larger tank. like cosmo said sorry if it is blunt.... but its the best thing to do.

yupp, and I really question a 180g or a 200g being enough for a predator that will get well over 3'. IMO, any shark needs at least an 8' tank and wide enough to turn around in. Neither of which, your upgrade will allow.
