I need ideas for a DIY moonlight fixture

    Yes. In fact, I just painted my canopy and will be applying polyurethane over top of it tomorrow. I recently did the same thing with a table at work.

    Make sure you can attach the your LEDs to the heat sink at RapidLED if you choose to go that route.

    Gotcha, thanks. I wouldn't add them for awhile (canopy isn't even complete and the tank is empty).

    Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to stick with the wood. While it may take more work than just buying a heatsink, I enjoy it ;D Should I put acrylic under the wood for upcreep?

    No, but I could have someone at Lowes cut it for me. How should I have it set up? I could also drill holes through the wood and fit the lights through those, then put the acrylic or glass right under the wood. That way I could keep the wires away from the water. Would that work?

    Recessing the lights into the wood and screwing a piece of acrylic flush on the wood over the lights?

    Exactly. There wouldn't be any space between the wood and the acrylic. I would connect the acrylic directly onto the wood.
