It seems as though I happend to find a good deal on a 96x24x24 and a 55gal sump. I couldnt pass it up so what do you do, MAKE ROOM;D My major problem is that im a college student and im broke. I currently have a 55gal with 10gal sump and i need to buy a truck load of sand for this new tank and I dont feel like paying 30 bucks for 20lbs of sand. It would cost me more in sand than i paid for my tanks, stand, canopy, and lights!! I want all the good and bad ideas that you have???

sweet looking tank - have you considered running it bare bottom, many do as its easier to maintain , once you get some rock in there there wont be much bare base and couple that with coralline growth - bare bottom tanks can eventually look really good

at petco they have dry sand for 8 buks for 10lbs, you will still need a lot for your 240 gallon, good luck i wish i had a tank that big again!!!

go to the beach, also i would wash the sand you get really good in fresh water and then dry out, to kill any parasites.

you could go to the hardware store, look through the sand they have. i wouldn't buy playsand, but you can see if they have dolomite.

First, that's a great looking tank! Get 2 2x4 sheets of eggcrate from home depot and cut them to go under the rocks and protect the bottom glass from an avalanche. Then at your leisure and when you can afford it get some live Caribsea oolite and slowly with a cup lay it in infront of the rocks and as you get more you can push in and under the rock. It's not cheap but there's no hurry and the look is nice and clean. Just my opinion.

i would probably do this, its a good idea.

the oolite would look better then most beach sands. but then again i don't know what gulf beaches look like

Chlorine dissipates when it's exposed to air :)
