the pump for skimmer is irritating me, it's no louder than when i got it but the hum is the first thing i hear when i walk in the house, anyone have any ideas, i was gonna try to wrap it up in an old tshirt or even a few socks but that's a questionable approach at best, soundproofing the stand doesn't work from what i hear either .so what does? short of unplugging it and throwing it out the window:angry:

what kind of skimmer? have you made sure the pump is not vibrating up against something?

its a coralife superskimmer 220, i have no idea what the pump is though, it came with it, its not touching anything in the sump at all, just humming, i have a mag drive in there that also hums but not even close to as bad,the mag drive is tolerable the skimmer isn't,

most of my pumps in my tank are attatched via suction cup. cuts down on noise and vibration(aka noise lol)

not sure what your setup is. also if you have a venturi line maybe hide the line behind something. noisey little things.

if this pump is making ALOT of noise ( they all do to a degree it seems ) But if it's really going , i'd take it apart and MAKE SURE AN IMPELLER BLADE ISINT BROKEN ' OR it has somthing such as a piece of rock ( obstruction ).

i just went down and fiddled with it a bit more, guess what? it's not really the skimmer pumps fault, it's a combo of 2 koralia #4's the mag 5 and the skimmers pump. unplug any one and it lessens quite a bit, unplug two etc.etc., funny they all have the same "frequency" i'm extremely tempted to pull em all out, ditch the sump, and get a big old airpump and run 6/7 airstones in there, theres nothing in there that needs strong flow anyway
