    then floated away with the current i turned it off and placed it on LR to take a pic...is this a tiny head of something.

    it drops off heads like that? I have some head growing underneath but never saw lil tentacles like this floating around

    It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Could be something as simple as clownfish nipping off pieces. Looks too small to be polyp bail out. Sometimes pieces just float around for whatever reason.

    They can nip off pieces, they like to mouth the tentacles, no one really knows why, maybe to built up some type of immunity to the sting is one theory. I have never had a small piece go on to become an established coral, but I suppose it's possible.
