I've heard of club soda and if it works I may try it. Now, can I dip the whole rock in club soda?

The worm isn't living in one of my rocks, but in the GSP itself. I have this weird type of GSP that doesn't have a standard purple skeleton, but a white tube that is purple where it is actively growing and then turns white as it matures. It was unique when I saw it so I had to get it.

When the LFS pulled it off of the bottom of the tank, there was a ton of small pebbles, crab shells + claws, and other things all over the bottom. I never put 2 and 2 together until right now.

So for a strategy i'm thinking FW dip the entire rock, and pulling it up every 3 or 4 minutes, injecting the GSP tube with club soda, and then dousing the GSP with salt water. Hopefully this will drive it out. Any thoughts on whether or not this plan will work without harming the GSP?

    wow....best of luck with this!

If you get a go-ahead from one of the seasoned reefers here - you should document it (vid or photo).

I am trying to picture the GSP as described. Mine are the mat kind.

I will be glad for you when its gone!

This is what my GSP looks like. I have two separate kinds:

you see on the bottom right, that's the standard purple mat GSP.
The more lime green GSP toward the back on the rock is where the worm lives, and is the white tube kind. I don't think I have a pic of it closed up, I'll try to get one tonight when I'm hopefully not killing it.

-Thanks for all of the input.

I think I read you're supposed to blast the club soda at him - it shocks him and he zips out of the rock.

Nope, just have to pour it. The carbonation is CO2. They don't like it. If you have a restaurant you frequent often, ask them for some soda-water. (Most soda filling machines they have give them an option of adding only carbonated water). This is also useful if you've overdosed on Kalk and your pH is too high. The CO2 will get that back in line in short order.

just an update that after giving the GSP a 20 minute fresh water dip, basting with salt water every 5 minutes. A Small Eunicid. worm came out. I don't believe that it is the same worm that was attacking the starfish. So I'm going to keep an eye out for a lager one. I'm hoping the FW was long enough that it killed the worm in it's burrow though. I'll update with some pics a bit later!
