What don't they like. No matter where I put them they take over. I have had to pull some of mine out because they were taking over. Maybe it depends on which type.

I keep my shrooms (I only have 1 red shroom and 2 st. thomas) on the sandbed under a rock overhang. They don't seem to like the direct light. I also have them in low flow. The shrooms I had in my old 24 gal did better than the shrooms in my tank now. I have no scientific proof of this, but I've heard a lot of shrooms like "dirtier" or "nutrient rich" water as oppossed to cleaner water.

Or source. Or a tank inhabitant. Have you bought them all from the same place/person?

To answer the general question: low flow, low light, ie - bottom of the tank near the sand.

I have a hairy mushroom that has split into 3, got rid of one, they are huge. Then some blueish purple ones that have multiplied from 3 into about 15. I got them all from the same person. Came on some live rock I bought from him. I'll get pictures tonight. I'm not sure what I'm doing right but they love my tank.

Just for clarity, my statement was really directed at the OP and whether he/she had purchased his/her corals from the same place/person on each attempt. I presumed you had mushrooms growing out of control :p
