So very sorry for your loss, that really sucks.
I also really enjoyed reading the tips in this thread. This upcoming winter will be my first with the reef tank, and power outages are common here during winter storms, although they usually just last a couple of hours at most. Some of the tips shared are going to be very helpful.

sorry for your loss, i cant even imagine that happening :(

i still dont see why they havnt come up with some sort of solar powered pumps or powerheads of some kind, people in "disaster regions" would be buying those left and right!

I actually looked into doing solar as a back up. Not going powering my tank anytime soon, it would be MUCH cheaper to just buy a generator

i got a new generator on sale last year after the massive ice storm here left us powerless for 4 days, $350 was well worth the investment + i use it when camping, ect also the way I look at it is the money in my generator was way cheaper than what it'd cost to replace my livestock not to mention it can run my tank, refrigerator and hvac easily

Sorry for your loss. I live in Fl on the coast, hurricanes are a constant worry, when I set up my tank I didn't even think about the fact that I was in an evacuation zone. If I have to leave--I think my tank could be toast.

    Karma for your loss.
I use two standard 1500 PC UPS, the one witht he extra battery pack. These run pumps, heater, skimmer, for a f ew hours. Looking into adding the car battery to get aday. For the long outages, small genterator keeps everyyhing running.

You can get small UPS and Genterator for less then what our fish cost, so maybe worth looking into..

    \Good luck with re building..

Same here...actually ...3, 1 for lights 1 for power heads/pumps and one will be for my sump return.
All APC / UPS with triplite Line conditioners..california get kinda sketchy on the power once in awhile...but generally only an hour at most...or so.
So sorry for your lost...I am betting many others in this hobby lost alot in this storm....someone say a store went down...what a drag.
