I'm on NW side of Houston. We lost power for 60 hours. I took a large spoon and stirred my tank every hour (more or less, not exactly) and siphoned out 2 gallons and dumped it back twice a day.

My fishies did OK (granted, it was only clowns/damsels) and my params didn't change a hair. . .

 

Sorry to hear of your loss. I have 3 batt. powered air pumps as a back up in case of a sitution as yours. I also have a gen. but thats in case of a hurricane. Good luck. Luna

 

its probably alreay been said, but battery powered aerators are a must

if you can afford it, get a generator. If not, get a UPS unit. It's basically a battery back up system and you can get the at Best Buy. You may have to not run the lights that much to conserve the battery though. My tank runs on about 120 watts and I got a 900 watt for 100 mins battery ( i think they make higher capacities). Should last me around 10 hours. It's worked great so far, but be sure to test it. (I bought Geek Squad brand. about 200 dollars). Should automatically switch on when the power supply is interrupted.

 

I would bite the bullet and get a small generator to run the frig, freezer and tank. Come on now I know you moved down there for the money..

I took a cut in pay to get out of the cold and TIEM. It's so nice to have a life and to have time to look at my tank instead of some stupid CATIA model on the screen.

ProE sucks though. But I can live with it for 8 hours versus the 12-14 hours on CATIA.

 

dude they sell power inverters that are like 1100 watts, all you do is plug it in your cig lighter in your car and your got your self a generator that you didnt even know you had!

 

That's an idea. I do have 2 cars.... 2200W.

I could have probably saved the fish if I wasn't stuck in Japan that week. I should turn it in on my expense report.

 

As well I am sorry for you loss in the tank life, that is quite the burden to be struck with along the side of your personal life. I donate $ 10 US dollars to 3reef in the loss of your tank, hope this helps in some way back to you...

Sorry for your losses. Today is the last day that our shelters were open for the evacuee's here in SA. It's been a long time since some of these people have been home.
