not familiar with that particular skimmer but yes, it is possible to overskim... it takes the salt right out of the water given the chance

I haven't been unlucky enough to see the results of overskimming myself yet, but it is a fairly documented thing. I have run some huge skimmers on a small amount of water with no ill effects though, so I would say you may get away with it. The things you will definitely see are, the skimmer will clear all organics out of the water very fast than stop skimming until more are introduced, and it may take awhile for enough organics to build up in the skimmer for the foam to reach the top and get into the cup.

if you have sedra 3500 you probably have ASM G-2 skimmer, which i think is rated for 150 gal tank. ASM ratings are for pretty light bioload, so you may not have too much skimmer, depending on your total system volume (sump, etc) and livestock in the tank.

there are some mods out there for the ASM skimmers ("gate valve mod", "recirc mod") that give you better control over the level of skimming, as compared to just moving the silly tube up and down.

make sure your sump is set up so that the water level that the skimmer is in is kept constant (doesn't vary with overall system volume) - the skimmer is very sensitive to change in water depth in my experience.
