yeah ive got a foxface with a naso and a powder brown. kinda weird how similar our tanks are haha. ive also got a orange spotted goby.. well i HAD him :(. and chromis. okay sorry off topic. i know hawkfish can get mean sometimes. they hunt via ambush. when fox faces get scared they go camo. ive read before that if they get EXTREMELY scared they may go all brown/black. my thinking is maybe the hawkfish lurched at him or by him and startled him so much that he went into this extreme camo mode. also, be careful if you need to touch him the spines are poisonous.

I just check water and 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and 0 nitrate temp 79. would a dying open brain do anything? You would think if it was the cause it would affect all the fish and would be pumping ammonia into the water.

If i brush up the side he does stick his spines out like he gets startled but does swim away just kinda floats around. the hawkfish is really tiny though...like maybe an inch long. you really think he could do that? the fox face is like 4+ inches long.

Well i moved him to my 20 gallon refugium to try and keep em in calmer water as the power heads were just whipping him around.

I hope so too. By the way how is your naso with the powder brown tang? I really wanted to get a powder blue tang but feared they would fight.
