Yeah.. my son (almost 22 months) had a goldfish tank where we would find numerous pairs of socks in. He loved throwing them in there for some reason. 15 pairs one time. I got tired of cleaning it out, so we went saltwater on a stand with a canopy! :)

I spent the day with my granson...he's 2 months...He watched my tank for at least 20 minutes...a long time for a cranky boy...lunch was definitely better after that long...LOL
Guess I better start saving for his tank...LOL

He is so FREAKING cute and it's good to see Roger STANDING and holding him!

Go ahead and move the Nano into his room! It will help him sleep better.

My almost 3 year old has his own tank. It's a Tom's 3 Gallon Deco Kit. He feeds it, cleans and does water changes on it. He picks out his own fish and corals. He can name every species in it and what they prefer to eat. He feeds Aquadine flake food daily and only feeds TWO FLAKES at the time. I work at the LFS so he tells me when he needs food so I can bring it home with me and gets REALLY mad when I forget. My 7 year old also has her own tank and she tests the water (even the dreaded Seachem Magnesium test) and doses chemicals as needed. She has some beautiful monti-caps, frogspawn, torch, zoas, star polyps, a mated pair of Green Clown Gobis and a mated pair of Yase Hashe Gobies. No fish babies (they keep getting eaten and I won't let her set up a breeder tank) but they keep reproducing. She works in the fish store to "pay" for the things she needs for her tank and keeps a calendar of her parameters and which corals she stocked when. I was reminded the other day that her PC bulbs were 6 months and 2 days old and that she really needed new ones.

Bottom line, these tanks are an addiction, but they are also something that I can do with my kids. I sell a lot of nano tanks and deco tanks to people for their kids and they all tell me that it's the best thing they ever did. I tend to agree.

Because Roger has been off his feet since before Atticus was born, we have yet to finish his room so for the time being, his crib is in our room....and there will be no nano tank in our room ever! I'm hoping that we can finish his room soon so that he can have his own little sanctuary (and so that I can finally sleep through the night)!

We have used our tanks as a way to calm the kids since Adyn was born. We noticed being new parents that sometimes you have NO IDEA why they are crying even though you are hugging/cuddling them and they are changed and fed.... Once we walked past the tank and he stopped, and was transfixed.
He has, now that he is almost four, started helping me add my two part, he likes to help with W/Cs and even has helped me pour in the frozen food once or twice.
Hannah on the other hand might even be alittle worse! She has been glued to that tank for the last two years. She loves to drag that step stool right in front of the tank and yell smail and ishy.
They are cute, now if they can start pulling more weight with the whole W/C business we will be set!

Unfortuately, I got into this after my kids were out of toddler phase. Would have been nice.....But my little girl (6) has learned what almost all the corals are (she has problems with Kenya tree and Turbinaria). My boy (9) helps me with the tank, and I am training him on tank care and troubleshooting. He is learning to do a W/C this weekend. Logan, in fact, is in charge of the tank when I am gone. His opinion overrides my wife's. He is doing well......
