    hello:

I thought my cycle was done when ammonia=0, Nitrite=0, and Nitrate is low. I thought it was over. now I hear there is brown algae bloom then green algae bloom before cycle ends. The reason I ask is, I have stocked my tank slowly over several weeks with the following:

    mushrooms, star polyps, monti
a sleeper goby, firfish, 2 blue leg hermits, 5 astra snails and 3 tonga fighting conch,a yellowtail damasel (to be removed).

My mushrooms and star polyps opened up the second day I had them in and the fish are doing fine.

My question is right now, I got brown algae bloom and the CUC are going at the alage. Will the corals and fish be ok?

I tought I was taking it slow, I am now thinking, not slow enough. Any experts suggestions will be appreciated!!

    Thanks

How long has it been up and running and may I ask why you are removing the yellow tail damsel. Just curious.

    7 weeks.
yellow tail is being territorial and not very nice. I want to keep him though since his color is very bright, but not worth it.

    My phosphate is @ .03 - pretty low. I have my blue lights on from 11:00 - 6pm (metal halide from 1pm - 5pm).

I think mushrooms and star polyps need them. I don't worry too much about algae since the clean up crews is taking care of it sllllllowly...but will my stock survive? I have a fug.

All tanks get algae blooms after the cycle. Don't worry about it. I think your fish will be fine, but watch out for your corals. Make sure they are getting enough light and flow, and don't let the algae grow on them. This is something that your tank needs to go through. Think of it like a child getting a vaccination. The body has to learn that this is something that can occur in it but it will want conditions to where it doesn't occur. Same thing almost with your tank.

Just do proper tank maintenance (keep an eye on water params, do consistent water changes, etc.).

The blooms will eventually go away and like mandarin11 said proper tank maintenance.

thanks...I was expecting some algae, so i will keep it up w/ the tank. I just put in a fuge with chaeto and macro algae in it. Hope that will help in clearing things up. I will keep checking my parameters every week.
